Visit #6
TS Today was the first time I visited the Claude Chester School on a Friday. SD I walked into the Music Room where Power Hour was held and I sat there because today everyone was a less hyper. CM Maybe, the benefit from coming on a Friday is that they are more calm. CM Shantice was reading a story about Rosa Parks to a group of kids because Martin Luther King Day was coming up. SD A little later after free time we had a discussion about the segregation, racism, Jim Crow Laws and etc. CM A little girl wanted to write some of the words up on the board so I helped her. CM After I told her how to spell it she practiced it again later on. SD After Power Hour there was a choice to play board games or rock-papers-shoot. CM I decided to go with the kids who wanted to play board games. CM A little boy, Ajia, and I played air hockey with a checkers chip. CM Shantice then asked if anyone wanted to play Scrabble and Ajia he really wanted to play that instead. I never really saw a kid so excited about Scrabble before which sort of intrigued me because it is sort of an educational game. CS I learned that on maybe one of the most quiet days at Boys and Girls Club can be one of the more interesting days.
